Romanian Battlegroup Getica (Grupul Român de Luptă "Getica")
The group claims to have originated as a unit of Romanian Ukrainians that later expanded to include citizens from Romania and Moldova.
The leader, who uses the callsign Commander "Getotac," is an experienced Romanian professional who transitioned his skills from the private sector (cybersecurity, drones) to the battlefield. He stresses that volunteers must be driven by a clear cause, not money or superficial reasons.
The group unites volunteers and does not act as an official recruiter for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They were formed by uniting Romanian fighters already in various Ukrainian military units. Because of this style of recruitment and their side of battle, along with other foreign volunteers, is wanted by Russian authorities, who refer to them as "mercenaries." Battlegroup Getica has publicly mocked these warrants.
The Battlegroup's activities are characterized by light infantry, small-unit tactics, and a strong emphasis on technology and intelligence, including the hybrid and small wars tactics. Some of them are:
Drone Warfare, while they utilize modern technology, specifically drones, for intelligence gathering and combat purposes. As mapping, as they use small air strikes. The commander, "Getotac," has a background in cybersecurity and technology, which has been transformed into combat tools.
Intelligence & counterintelligence, gathering field intelligence, operating in the "cognitive terrain" to combat propaganda and disinformation, and engaging in counterintelligence activities.
Small Unit Raiding & Reconnaissance specialized in maneuver warfare, reconnaissance, and raiding using small unit tactics to operate effectively in the "Grey Zone" (the thin line between black and white in a conflict zone). Their capabilities can fly from the maneuver to the asymmetric and electronic warfare, with some specific battalions.
Proficiency in close-quarters combat Close-Quarters Battle (CQB/CQC), particularly in urban areas. Anti-Tank Warfare & Artillery Observation, engaging enemy armor and coordinating artillery fire.
Physical and Mental Conditioning. The group emphasizes rigorous physical readiness (e.g., 5km run in 23 minutes, marching with 25kg) as a "life insurance" in combat. Physical preparation is one of the basics for joining the group. They request physical and psychological capabilities, for field effectivity.
Horizontal Leadership. Their management is more into the employ of a collaborative leadership style where the command is consulted, prioritizing "brotherhood" over a rigid hierarchy.
